  • 2012 – 2015

    Initial thoughts and sketches of offshore aquaculture emerge

  • 2016

    The Ocean Farm 1 concept is awarded 8 development licenses

  • 2016-2017

    Ocean Farm 1 is built in China

  • September 2017

    OF1 is deployed at the Håbranden site – first fish release

  • 2017-2020

    Two successful production cycles on OF1

    The first two production cycles on OF1 were completed with strong biological results. Over 10,000 tons of salmon were harvested, and midway through the second cycle, the development licenses were converted into standard fish farming permits.

  • 2021

    Aker joins as a shareholder, and SalMar Aker Ocean is formed

  • 2022-2023

    Upgrading and maintenance of OF1 at Aker Verdal

    The unit was towed to Aker Solutions’ shipyard in Verdal for upgrades and maintenance. This included replacing the entire net system and installing a newly developed gangway for safer boarding and disembarkation.

  • September 2023

    SalMar Aker Ocean awarded the world’s first offshore aquaculture site

  • November 2023

    Arctic Offshore Farming becomes part of SalMar Aker Ocean

  • December/January 2023/24

    Successful first harvest at AOF

  • March 2024

    Harvest of the 3rd production cycle from OF1 – successful first cycle after unit upgrades

  • September 2024

    Well underway with the 4th production cycle on Ocean Farm 1 (OF1) and the 2nd cycle on Arctic Offshore Farming (AOF)
